What people are calling hacking is not really hacking. What happened is people did not change the passwords on their voice mails. IE the default password was something like 1234 and the owner of the phones stupidly never changed the password. So when the tabloids called the phone and they punched in the code to get the voicemail and then the system asked for the password the tabloid would enter the default password and they would get in and be able to listen to the voicemails. If people excercised a little prudent security this news story would have never happened. Yes the tabloids were in the wrong. But the people with the cell phones that were hacked were criminally stupid with their own security and privacy.Donaldhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07918079481045618507noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2589665037999201164.post-75097393898471100662011-11-03T17:25:27.566-07:002011-11-03T17:25:27.566-07:00You keep leaving out a HUGE part of the mess.

Your comments abourt Russert and Murrow were right on. Murrow was the victim of the ratings game. CBS wanted more entertaining shows and fewer documentaries that might ruffle feathers. This was in the book "CBS confessions of the Blood Shot Eye" or something along those lines.

I liked your comments about news talk radio. I fear that many years ago the talk hosts I listened to in Mimi gave their outrageous opinions to incite listeners to call rather than to honestly inform listeners.

I often wonder who would want to be in the media in this day and age. It's a totally thankless job to present the public the facts. Most people only want news they agree with. I can't tell you all of the inane e-mails I receive from friends about the presidential candidates. These e-mails originated from some anonymous source but get forwarded because the sender agrees with it without checking the facts first. I shoot them down every time with snopes.com!

I love radio, I grew up listening to the great Buffalo stations in the late '50's and early '60's. Radio these days due largely to cost cutting doesn't serve.Mike Mirandahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02822566455691809914noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2589665037999201164.post-66768908101890185132008-06-21T12:50:00.000-07:002008-06-21T12:50:00.000-07:00Bill: Glad to see you made it to the "computer"...Bill: Glad to see you made it to the "computer" age...I just started myself a few years ago...big change from the past. I hope "blogs" will have the same impact as a personal note, but I somehow feel that's not possible...we'll see.

One comment on your blog...I did know Tim Russert very well, he started his career in my dad's office. The conclusion that Ann Curry, who I worked with both in NY and LA, is a good choice for MTP...no way. Ann has many good talents, hosting that forum is not one of them. Preparation, knowledge of the guests, knowledge of the players in DC all part of the talents the host of that show must possess.....Koppel,Brokaw, D.Gregory much better choice....that's the way it looks from here...stay well...Kevinkevin o'connellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04572742640004886424noreply@blogger.com
